El Nido town is compact — most of it is walkable — but the surrounding beaches, waterfalls, and viewpoints require local transport. This 2026 guide covers every option, with current rates, practical tips, and advice on when each mode of transport makes the most sense.
Getting Around El Nido Town: Walk First
Before spending any money on transport, understand that El Nido town is genuinely small:
- Corong-Corong beach to the tourism office on Real Street: 8 minutes on foot
- Tourism office to the public market: 5 minutes
- Main beach to the Taraw Cliff trailhead: 12 minutes
- Town centre to Corong-Corong village: 15 minutes
Save tricycle money for destinations outside walking range. The town’s main drawback for walkers is the uneven pavement and open drains — watch your step after dark.
Tricycles: The Default Local Transport
The motorised tricycle (a motorcycle with an attached sidecar) is El Nido’s primary mode of transport. They’re abundant throughout town.

Day charter rate: ₱1,000–₱1,500 for a full day with a tricycle and driver who waits for you — excellent value for exploring multiple spots (e.g., waterfall + Nacpan Beach in one day).
Night rates: After 9 PM, fares increase 30–50%. Always negotiate before boarding after dark.
Tips: Agree the price before getting in. Drivers rarely use meters. If quoted an unreasonable price, simply walk away — another tricycle will be along within minutes in the daytime.
Motorbike Rental: The Most Liberating Option
Renting a motorbike gives you complete freedom — Nacpan Beach, waterfalls, roadside villages, and the coastal road all become easily accessible on your own schedule.

Requirements: Valid motorcycle licence from your home country (an international driving permit is not strictly enforced but reduces risk if stopped). Most shops accept a licence + passport copy.
Road conditions: The main coastal road to Nacpan is paved but has some rough sections near the beach. The waterfall trailhead access road has unpaved stretches that become muddy in rain — a 125cc+ bike handles these; a small scooter may struggle.
Fuel: Fill up in town before heading north — no petrol stations exist beyond the first 5km. Fill to the brim; Nacpan round trip from town uses about ½ litre.
Rental shops: Several shops on Real Street and along the beach road. Check the bike’s brakes, lights, and tyres before departing. Take photos of any existing damage.
Habal-Habal: Motorbike Taxis
Habal-habal (riding pillion on a local’s motorbike) operates informally in El Nido. Drivers park near the tourism office and boat landing. Rates are similar to tricycles for short trips — ₱50–₱100 within town — but faster. Less suitable for luggage-carrying; ideal for solo travellers making a quick hop.
Bangka (Outrigger Boat): Island Transport
For reaching any island, a bangka is your only option. Two categories:

Bicycle Rental

Transport Apps & Booking
Grab (the region’s dominant ride-hailing app) does not operate in El Nido — it’s entirely street-hail and direct negotiation.
