The good news: the Philippines is one of the most accessible countries in Southeast Asia for international visitors, with visa-free entry for citizens of most countries. Here’s everything you need to know.
Visa-Free Entry to the Philippines
Citizens of most countries can enter the Philippines visa-free for stays of up to 30 days (extendable to 59 days at a Bureau of Immigration office). This includes citizens of:
- All EU member states
- United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK
- Most Asian countries (Japan, South Korea, Singapore, etc.)
- Most Latin American countries

Entry Requirements (All Visitors)
Regardless of nationality, all visitors to the Philippines must have:
- Valid passport: At least 6 months validity beyond your intended stay
- Onward/return ticket: Proof of onward travel out of the Philippines — airlines and immigration may ask for this
- Sufficient funds: Immigration officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds for your stay (PHP 1,000/day is a common guideline)
- Completed arrival card: Filled out on the plane or at the airport
Extending Your Stay
If you want to stay longer than 30 days (visa-free entry), you can extend at any Bureau of Immigration office in the Philippines. Extensions are available in 29-day increments. The nearest Bureau of Immigration to El Nido is in Puerto Princesa. Extension fees are approximately PHP 3,000–4,000 for the first extension.
Getting to El Nido from the Airport

Health Requirements
Check current health entry requirements before travelling — requirements can change. As of 2026, no specific vaccinations are required for entry to the Philippines, but standard travel vaccinations (hepatitis A, typhoid) are recommended. Travel insurance is strongly recommended for El Nido — the nearest major hospital is in Puerto Princesa, and medical evacuation can be expensive. Ensure your policy covers:
