El Nido in October 2026: End of Wet Season — Is It Worth Visiting?

El Nido in October 2026: End of Wet Season — Is It Worth Visiting?

October is one of El Nido’s most misunderstood months. It falls at the tail end of the southwest monsoon season — technically still wet season, but with weather that is noticeably improving compared to July and August. Prices are at their lowest, the landscape is lushly green, and by mid-to-late October, travellers often enjoy good stretches of calm weather. Understanding the real conditions in October can unlock a genuinely rewarding, budget-friendly Palawan trip.

October Weather in El Nido

  • Average temperature: 27-29°C — warm and comfortable
  • Rainfall: Moderate — typically 12-16 rainy days, decreasing noticeably in the second half of October as the monsoon retreats
  • Sea conditions: Variable. Early October can still be rough, but mid-to-late October sees increasingly calm days. Good windows of 3-5 consecutive calm days occur more frequently than in August.
  • Typhoon risk: Still present in early-to-mid October but decreasing. Late October typhoons affecting Palawan are uncommon — most active typhoon tracks shift eastward by October.
  • Transition: The northeast trade winds (amihan) begin establishing in late October, signalling the approach of dry season. By October 25-31, conditions often feel close to November’s reliable dry-season start.

Early October vs Late October

October has two distinct personalities:

  • Early October (1-15): Genuinely wet season — expect similar conditions to September, with frequent rain, rough seas, and tour cancellations on multiple days per week. Approach with the same flexible mindset as July-August travel.
  • Late October (16-31): Transitional — increasingly dry spells, improving sea conditions, and more consistent tour operation. Many late-October visitors are pleasantly surprised by how good the conditions are compared to their expectations.

What’s Possible in October

  • Island hopping: Possible on calm days — Tour A runs on most calm-sea days even in October. Expect 3-5 tour-able days out of 7 in a typical October week.
  • Scuba diving: Good option throughout October — sheltered dive sites operate even when surface tours cancel. See our El Nido diving guide.
  • Nacpan Beach: The east-facing Nacpan Beach is protected from southwest monsoon swell — often swimmable even when Bacuit Bay is rough. A motorbike ride north is one of the best October activities.
  • Whale shark pre-season: Whale sharks begin appearing off Lio Beach from late October. Early sightings are possible before the November-March peak season. See our whale shark guide.
  • Photography: October’s dramatic skies, green jungle, and moody light create some of El Nido’s most atmospheric photography conditions.

October Prices — The Lowest of the Year

  • Hotels: October is typically the cheapest month for accommodation — 40-60% below January peak. Walk-in deals are easy to find even at mid-range properties.
  • Flights: Manila-Puerto Princesa at yearly lows. Book flexibly — October is when rescheduling (due to weather) is most likely to be needed.
  • Tours: Same standard prices, but operators sometimes offer discounts in October to fill boats during the slow period.
