El Nido Transfer and Getting Around Guide 2026: All Transport Options Explained
Getting to El Nido requires some planning — it’s not a destination you stumble into. And once you arrive, knowing your way around the local transport options saves time, money, and frustration. This guide covers every transport option for reaching El Nido and moving around the Palawan region in 2026.
Getting TO El Nido
Option 1: Fly Direct Manila to El Nido (Fastest)
AirSWIFT operates the only direct flights between Manila (from Pasay Domestic Terminal, not NAIA) and El Nido (ENI airport). Key details:
- Flight time: Approximately 1 hour 10 minutes
- Fare: 4,000-8,000 pesos one-way depending on season and advance booking
- Frequency: Multiple daily flights in peak season; reduced off-season
- Booking: Book directly via AirSWIFT website — seats are limited (small aircraft, 19-40 seats) and sell out weeks ahead during December-April
- Baggage allowance: Strict weight limits on small aircraft — check before packing
- El Nido airport: Tiny, open-air terminal. No ATM, no luggage storage. Tricycles and hotel transfers wait outside.
Best for: Travellers with limited time, budget for the premium fare, or those who want to avoid the long van journey.
Option 2: Fly to Puerto Princesa + Van (Most Common)
Most El Nido visitors fly to Puerto Princesa (PPS) — the Palawan provincial capital — then take a van or bus north to El Nido. This is the most common route due to better flight availability and lower fares.
- PPS flight time from Manila: 1 hour 15-30 minutes
- Airlines: Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, AirAsia — multiple daily flights, much cheaper than AirSWIFT
- PPS to El Nido van time: 5-6 hours on the Palawan road (San Jose – Roxas – El Nido route)
- Shared van fare: 650-900 pesos per person
- Private van charter: 8,000-12,000 pesos for a 10-seater van — worth it for groups of 6+
- Van operators: Multiple operators at the PPS van terminal near the airport. Book online (El Nido Express is a popular option) or at the terminal.
Best for: Budget travellers, those with more flexible schedules, groups who can split a private van.
Option 3: Fly to Busuanga (Coron) + Boat South
For travellers combining El Nido and Coron, flying into Busuanga (USU) near Coron then taking the El Nido to Coron boat trip southward is a logical approach. This works well for a 10-14 day Palawan itinerary.
Getting from Puerto Princesa Airport to the Van Terminal
- Tricycle from PPS airport to the van terminal: approximately 60-100 pesos (agree on price before boarding)
- Some van services offer airport pickup — book in advance
- The van terminal is about 3 km from the airport in the Malvar area
Getting Around El Nido Town
Tricycles (E-Trikes and Motorised)
The standard local transport in El Nido town. Three-wheeled motorcycle taxis serve all areas within and around town.
- Short town trips (Calle Real to Las Cabanas): 60-100 pesos
- Airport to town: 150-200 pesos
- Town to Corong-Corong: 50-80 pesos
- Negotiate before boarding: Rates are not metered — agree on price first
- E-trikes: Electric tricycles operate in the town centre — quieter and cleaner, same pricing
Motorbike Rental (Best for Flexibility)
Renting a motorbike (scooter/habal-habal) is the best way to explore beyond El Nido town — essential for reaching Nacpan Beach, Duli Beach, and the northern barangays.
- Daily rate: 350-600 pesos/day for a semi-automatic scooter
- Where to rent: Multiple shops on Calle Real and the side streets. Your hotel can usually arrange.
- Requirements: International driving license or Philippine license technically required. In practice, many shops rent on self-declaration. Helmet is included — wear it.
- Road conditions: El Nido town roads are paved and manageable. The road north to Nacpan Beach is mostly paved with some rough sections. Always inspect the bike before renting.
- Fuel: Small petrol stations in town. Fill up before heading north — no stations beyond Nacpan.
Walking (Town Centre)
El Nido town centre is compact and walkable. Calle Real (main street) to the pier, to the market, and to most restaurants is comfortably on foot. Corong-Corong beach is a 10-15 minute walk south.
Getting to Islands and Beaches from El Nido
Tour Bangkas (Island Hopping)
The primary way to access the Bacuit Archipelago. Shared island-hopping tours (Tour A, B, C, D) depart from the El Nido pier each morning. Private charters available for your own group. See our complete island hopping guide for booking details and tour comparison.
To Nacpan Beach
- Motorbike: 45 minutes north from town — the best option for flexibility
- Tricycle: 250-400 pesos one-way (negotiate return time and price)
- Shared jeepney: Infrequent departures from the El Nido market area — cheapest but unreliable timing
To Las Cabanas (Maremegmeg) Beach
- Tricycle: 80-120 pesos one-way, 10 minutes from town
- Walk: 25-30 minutes along the coastal road — pleasant in the morning or late afternoon
To Taytay (Day Trip North)
Taytay town (2 hours north by motorbike or van) is worth a day trip for the historic Spanish fort. See our Taytay day trip guide for route and logistics.
Leaving El Nido: Key Tips
- Book return flights/van early: AirSWIFT return flights from El Nido sell out — book both legs when you book outbound
- Van to PPS early departure: Vans to Puerto Princesa depart early morning (5-7 am) — book the evening before and confirm pick-up location
- Airport transfers: El Nido airport is 3 km from town — tricycles wait outside (150-200 pesos to town). Pre-arrange with your hotel for peace of mind.
- Luggage on vans: Shared vans have limited roof/rear storage. Large suitcases are difficult — use a duffel bag or backpack for Palawan travel
