El Nido in April 2026: Weather, Crowds & Travel Guide

April is El Nido’s transition month — the dry season is winding down, temperatures are at their annual peak, and the first signs of the coming wet season begin to appear. It’s still a good time to visit, but it’s a different experience from the peak dry season months of January and February. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting El Nido in April.

Factor April in El Nido
Weather Good — late dry/transition season
Average temperature 28–34°C (82–93°F)
Rainfall Low to moderate (60–100mm average)
Sea conditions Generally calm — occasional afternoon chop
Crowds High (Easter), then dropping sharply
Hotel prices Peak (Easter week), then shoulder rates
Island hopping Operates daily — occasional afternoon cancellations

April Weather in El Nido

April is El Nido’s hottest month. The northeast monsoon (Amihan) has weakened, and the southwest monsoon (Habagat) hasn’t yet established itself — leaving a hot, increasingly humid transition period. Daytime temperatures regularly reach 32–34°C, and humidity climbs noticeably compared to January and February.

Rainfall increases through April — expect 60–100mm on average, with afternoon thunderstorms becoming more frequent in the second half of the month. Mornings are typically clear and sunny; afternoons can bring dramatic build-up clouds and brief heavy showers. Sea conditions remain generally good for island hopping, though afternoon tours may occasionally be shortened or cancelled due to weather.

Easter in El Nido (Semana Santa)

If Easter falls in April (it varies year to year), El Nido sees its biggest domestic tourism surge of the year. Semana Santa (Holy Week) is the Philippines’ most important holiday, and Palawan is a top destination for Filipino families and groups. During Easter week:

  • Accommodation is fully booked — book 8–12 weeks in advance
  • Island-hopping tours operate at maximum capacity
  • El Nido town is lively and festive with local celebrations
  • Some businesses close on Good Friday and Easter Sunday
  • Prices are at peak rates

After Easter, crowds drop sharply and prices fall — late April (post-Easter) is actually one of the better value periods to visit El Nido, with good weather still holding and significantly fewer tourists.

What to Do in El Nido in April

  • Island hopping: All four island-hopping tours operate in April. Book morning departures to avoid afternoon weather. Tour A (Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon) and Tour C (Secret Beach) are the highlights.
  • Nacpan Beach: April’s heat makes Nacpan even more appealing — the water is warm and inviting. Go early (before 9am) to beat the heat and the crowds.
  • Scuba diving: April’s warm water (28–30°C) is excellent for diving. Visibility remains good (12–20m) before the wet season reduces clarity.
  • Sunset watching: April’s dramatic cloud formations create spectacular sunsets at Las Cabanas and Corong-Corong — the transition season clouds add color and drama.
  • Kayaking: Morning kayaking in the lagoons is excellent in April — calm water, warm temperatures, and fewer crowds than peak season.

April vs Other Months: Is It Worth Visiting?

April is a solid choice for budget-conscious travelers who can visit after Easter. The weather is still mostly good, the water is warm, and prices drop significantly post-Easter. The trade-offs:

  • Pros: Warm water, post-Easter value, dramatic cloud formations for photography, fewer international tourists
  • Cons: Hottest month of the year, increasing humidity, afternoon showers more frequent, some days too hot for comfortable outdoor activity
