El Nido Things To Do 2026: 20 Best Activities, Tours & Experiences

El Nido packs more world-class experiences per square kilometre than almost anywhere in Southeast Asia. The challenge isn’t finding things to do — it’s choosing which to prioritise. This ranked list covers the 20 best activities for 2026, organised from the unmissable to the hidden gems, with practical booking info for each.

On the Water

1. Island Hopping Tour A — Big Lagoon & Small Lagoon

The essential El Nido experience. Kayak through the cathedral-like Big Lagoon, swim through the rock passage into the Small Lagoon, and lunch on Seven Commando Beach. Book at the tourism office; depart by 7 AM. Cost: ₱1,200–₱1,500. Full tips in our island hopping guide.

2. Island Hopping Tour C — Shimizu Island & Star Beach

The best snorkelling tour — 15–20m visibility at Shimizu Island’s deep blue channel. Includes Big Lagoon from the sea approach (more dramatic than Tour A’s entry). Best second tour after Tour A.

3. Island Hopping Tour D — Matinloc Shrine & Helicopter Island

The most dramatic scenery of the four tours. Matinloc Shrine clifftop views, the iconic Helicopter Island profile from the water, and the furthest, least-crowded islands. Full day; bring extra snacks.

4. Bioluminescent Night Kayak

November–April, calm nights bring out glowing blue plankton in Bacuit Bay. Paddling through bioluminescent water — your paddle trailing blue fire — is one of travel’s genuinely transcendent experiences. Book through your guesthouse; ₱800–₱1,500/person.

5. Private Bangka Sunset Cruise

Charter a traditional outrigger for a private sunset cruise around the nearest islands — sundowners, fresh fruit, and the archipelago in golden light. ₱2,500–₱4,000 for the whole boat (split between a group). Book directly with boat captains at the beach.

6. Snorkelling at Shimizu Island

Even without a full tour, you can hire a bangka to Shimizu specifically for snorkelling. Water clarity at 15–20m in dry season; reef fish, sea turtles, and occasional reef sharks in the channel. Bring your own mask for the best experience.

7. Kayaking the Bacuit Bay Mangroves

A quieter alternative to the main lagoon tours — rent a kayak from the beach (₱300–₱500/hr) and paddle the mangrove channels north of town at sunrise. Kingfishers, monitor lizards, and almost complete solitude.

On Land

8. Taraw Cliff Sunrise Hike

Depart 4:30 AM; reach the 270m summit for the most dramatic sunrise view in the Philippines. Guide mandatory (₱600). One of El Nido’s definitive experiences — see our hiking guide for full details.

9. Nacpan Beach Day

The 4km twin-bay beach — white sand, coconut palms, turquoise water, almost no development. Best reached by motorbike (₱500/day rental) or private tricycle (₱1,000–₱1,200 return). Spend a full day; the sunset from the twin-spit is unmissable.

10. Nagkalit-kalit Waterfall Hike

30-minute jungle trail from the highway to a 15m waterfall with a clear swimming pool below. Entry ₱50. Combine with the Nacpan Beach day for a perfect land-based day. See our hiking guide for directions.

11. Makinit Hot Springs

One of the Philippines’ only saltwater hot springs — 41°C mineral water flowing into a tidal zone where the ocean washes over you. 45 minutes north of town by tricycle. Best in the late afternoon. Entry ₱100.

12. El Nido Public Market at Dawn

The market opens at 5 AM with the morning fishing catch — fresh tuna, reef fish, squid, prawns. An atmospheric, genuinely local experience. Buy fresh fish and ask a nearby eatery to cook it (₱50–₱80 cooking fee). See our street food guide for what to order.

Adventure Activities

13. Cliff Jumping

Natural limestone ledges at Helicopter Island (4–6m), Shimizu Island (5–8m), and Las Cabañas headland (6–7m) offer thrilling jumps into deep clear water. Safety rules and spot details in our cliff diving guide.

14. Freediving or Scuba Introduction

El Nido’s visibility and marine diversity make it one of the Philippines’ best freediving destinations. Several dive centres offer discover scuba (₱2,500–₱3,500) or freediving intro (₱3,000–₱4,500) courses. PADI certification courses run 3–4 days.

15. Drone Photography Flight

Register with CAAP, fly to the Nacpan twin-spit at golden hour, and capture one of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular aerial images. See our drone guide for all rules and best spots.

Cultural & Food Experiences

16. Filipino Cooking Class

Learn to make sinigang, kare-kare, and adobo with a local cook. Several guesthouses and restaurants offer 3–4 hour sessions (₱1,200–₱2,000) that include a market visit to buy ingredients. One of the best rainy-day activities.

17. Ihaw-Ihaw Street Food Evening

Join locals at the Calle Hama grills from 6 PM — skewers of everything from pork belly to chicken intestine over charcoal, ₱20–₱30 per stick. The authentic El Nido evening. See our street food guide.

18. Las Cabañas Sunset & Fire Show

Watch the sun drop over the South China Sea from Las Cabañas Beach, with the optional cable car ride (₱250) for elevated views and a fire show at dusk. Best free evening activity in El Nido. Tricycle from town: ₱100–₱150.

Slow Travel

19. Tao Philippines Multi-Day Expedition

The iconic 4-day sailing journey from El Nido to Coron on a traditional wooden boat — camping on deserted beaches, snorkelling untouched reefs, and meeting other travellers. From USD 520/person shared. Book at taophilippines.com months in advance for peak season.

20. A Morning Doing Nothing on Nacpan Beach

This isn’t laziness — it’s the point. Hammock, fresh buko juice, the sound of the Sulu Sea, 4km of empty white sand in front of you. El Nido rewards slow travel more than most destinations. Build at least one unscheduled morning into your itinerary.
