Getting around El Nido requires a combination of tricycles, motorbikes, vans, boats, and your own two feet. This El Nido transportation guide covers every way to move within the town, reach the beaches, get to the airport, and travel between El Nido and the rest of Palawan.
Getting to El Nido
By Plane — Lio Airport (ENI)
The most convenient way to reach El Nido is to fly directly to Lio Airport (ENI), which is about 3km from El Nido town. The airport is small — it mainly handles Air Swift and Sky Pasada flights.
| Route | Airlines | Duration | Price Range | Frequency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manila (NAIA) → El Nido (Lio) | Air Swift | ~55 min | ₱3,500–₱8,000 | Daily (2–3 flights) |
| Cebu → El Nido | Air Swift (via Manila) | ~2–3 hrs total | ₱4,000–₱9,000 | Several/week |
| Boracay → El Nido | Air Swift (seasonal) | ~1.5 hrs | ₱4,500–₱8,500 | Seasonal |
Airport to town: A tricycle from Lio Airport to El Nido town costs ₱150–₱250 (10-min ride). Many hotels offer free or paid shuttle pickups — confirm when booking. See our full El Nido Airport Transfer Guide.
Via Puerto Princesa + Van/Bus
The budget option: fly to Puerto Princesa (PPS) on a cheaper airline (Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, PAL), then take a van or bus to El Nido.
| Transport | Duration | Cost | Comfort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared van (Rovic, Cherry, D’Eltoro) | 5–6 hrs | ₱650–₱800 | ⭐⭐⭐ OK |
| Private van (6–10 people) | 5–6 hrs | ₱4,500–₱6,000 | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comfortable |
| Daytripper Bus | 6–7 hrs | ₱600–₱750 | ⭐⭐⭐ AC, stops for food |
Tip: Book vans in advance through your hotel or at Puerto Princesa airport. Vans depart early morning (5–7am) and mid-day. The road is mostly paved now, but the last 30–40km can be winding.
By Ferry from Coron
The El Nido–Coron ferry is a popular option for travelers doing the Palawan circuit. Operators include Montenegro Lines and 2Travel.
| Operator | Duration | Cost | Departs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Montenegro Lines | ~8 hrs | ₱1,400–₱2,000 | Early morning |
| 2Travel Ferry | ~4–5 hrs | ₱2,800–₱4,500 | Morning |
Book the faster 2Travel boat if your time is limited. The journey can be rough in bad weather — check conditions and take seasickness medication if needed.
Getting Around El Nido Town
Tricycles — The Primary Local Transport
Tricycles (motorbikes with a sidecar) are the backbone of El Nido’s transport system. They’re everywhere in town and easy to flag down.
| Journey | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Within El Nido town center | ₱20–₱50 | Fixed rate, short hops |
| Town → Corong-Corong beach | ₱50–₱80 | 5–10 min |
| Town → Las Cabanas Beach | ₱100–₱150 | 15 min |
| Town → Lio Beach/Lio Airport | ₱150–₱250 | 10 min |
| Town → Nacpan Beach | ₱500–₱700 (round trip) | 45 min each way |
Tips: Always agree on the price before getting in. Night rates are higher. For Nacpan, ask your tricycle driver to wait for you (₱200–₱300 extra waiting fee) or arrange a pickup time.
Motorbike / Scooter Rental
Renting a motorbike gives you the most freedom — essential if you plan to visit Nacpan, explore the mainland, or make multiple stops in a day.
- Cost: ₱500–₱600/day for a scooter (semi-auto or automatic)
- Fuel: ₱50–₱100 extra per fill
- Requirement: Valid motorcycle license (theoretically) — in practice, rarely checked
- Condition: Bikes vary in quality — check brakes, tires, and lights before renting
See our detailed El Nido Motorbike Rental Guide for recommended rental shops and safety tips.
Walking
El Nido town itself is very walkable. The main strip (Real Street and Serena Street), the beach promenade, and the wet market are all within 10–15 minutes on foot. You won’t need motorized transport to explore the town center.
E-Bikes
A newer option: electric bicycles are available for rent from a few shops near the town plaza. Cost: ₱300–₱400/day. Good for exploring the town and nearby beaches without the noise and fumes of a motorbike.
Getting to Beaches & Attractions by Road

Boat Transport — Island Hopping & Water Taxis
Almost all the iconic El Nido attractions are reachable only by boat. There are two main formats:
Group Island-Hopping Tours (Tours A, B, C, D)
The standard way to see the islands. Tour operators assemble groups of 10–15 people on a bangka (outrigger boat). Includes guide, lunch, and entrance fees.
- Tour A: ₱1,400–₱1,800 — Lagoons (Big, Small, Secret Beach)
- Tour B: ₱1,200–₱1,600 — Pinagbuyutan, Snake Island, Cudugnon Cave
- Tour C: ₱1,500–₱2,000 — Hidden Beach, Matinloc Shrine
Tours depart at 8:00–9:00am and return by 4:30–5:30pm. Book through your hotel or a local tour shop.
Private Boat Charter
For the ultimate flexibility, charter your own bangka and create a custom route. See our El Nido Private Boat Charter Guide.
- Small bangka (2–6 pax): ₱3,500–₱5,000/day
- Large bangka (8–15 pax): ₱6,000–₱9,000/day
- Speedboat: ₱5,000–₱10,000/day
Leaving El Nido — Departure Tips
- Lio Airport: Arrive 45–60 min before flight. The airport is tiny so security is fast, but luggage handling can be slow.
- Van to Puerto Princesa: Book a spot at least the night before (especially peak season). Vans depart 7am–10am typically.
- Ferry to Coron: Port is near the town center. Board 30–45 min early; ferries can fill up.
