El Nido to Puerto Princesa 2026: Transport Guide (Van, Bus & Flight)

Puerto Princesa is Palawan’s capital city and the main transport hub for the island — most travellers fly in and out of Puerto Princesa International Airport. Getting between El Nido and Puerto Princesa is a straightforward but long journey: approximately 5–6 hours by road. This guide covers all your options.

El Nido to Puerto Princesa: Transport Options

Shared Van (Most Popular)

Shared vans are the most popular option — faster than buses, more comfortable than jeepneys, and reasonably priced. Vans depart from El Nido town’s main terminal throughout the morning (typically 6am–2pm). Book the day before through your guesthouse or at the van terminal.

  • Duration: 5–6 hours
  • Cost: PHP 250–350/person
  • Comfort: Air-conditioned, seats 8–10 passengers
  • Departures: Multiple daily, most in the morning

Bus

Public buses are the cheapest option but slower and less comfortable than vans. The journey takes 6–7 hours with more stops. Buses depart from El Nido’s main terminal.

  • Duration: 6–7 hours
  • Cost: PHP 180–250/person
  • Comfort: Basic — may not be air-conditioned

Private Van

A private van gives you flexibility on departure time and stops. Good for groups of 4+ where the per-person cost becomes comparable to shared vans.

  • Cost: PHP 3,000–4,500 for the whole van
  • Advantage: Flexible departure, can stop at viewpoints en route

Flight (El Nido/Lio Airport)

Lio Airport (El Nido) has direct flights to Manila — not Puerto Princesa. If you want to fly out of Puerto Princesa, you’ll need to travel overland first. Alternatively, fly El Nido → Manila directly and skip Puerto Princesa entirely.

The Road: What to Expect

The El Nido to Puerto Princesa road passes through some of Palawan’s most spectacular scenery — jungle, rice paddies, karst formations, and coastal views. The road is mostly paved but has rough sections. Motion sickness is common — sit near the front and take medication if prone.

Tips for the Journey

  • Book your van the day before — morning departures fill up fast in peak season
  • Bring snacks and water — stops are limited
  • Sit near the front to reduce motion sickness
  • The journey passes through Taytay and other towns — interesting to see local Palawan life
  • Arrive at Puerto Princesa with time to spare before your flight — allow 2+ hours

Puerto Princesa: What to Do

If you have time in Puerto Princesa, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is the city’s main attraction — a navigable underground river through a cave system. Book tours through your hotel or at the Puerto Princesa tourism office.
